About Me
Here's a little glimpse into my life.
About Me.
Hi, I'm Austin Preece, CFP®, EA. I'm the founder, owner, and lead planner of Preece Financial Planning. I started this firm out of a desire to help people improve their lives through financial planning. My passion for financial planning started with a college internship and has only grown stronger as I continue to learn more about all of the ways I can help people.
In October 2024, I decided to change the legal name of my firm to Wealth Planning Advisors LLC in order to allow other, fee-only independent advisors with similar values join my firm while maintaining their independence. I still conduct business as Preece Financial Planning, but allowing other advisors to operate under my firm is one of the steps I've taken to achieve my mission of making better financial planning more accessible.
I grew up in New Richmond, WI and moved to Eau Claire, WI for school where I met my wife, Dana. We decided to stick around after our graduations. Now we live in town with our dog, Lady, and our cat, Khaleesi (Khali for short). Dana and I like to believe that we enjoy hiking and spending time in nature, but it doesn't take much of an inconvenience for us to end up at a winery instead.
Education and Experience
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (go Blugolds!) in 2019 with a BBA in Finance and a minor in Spanish. While at school, I interned with Primerica in 2018 before taking a position with CliftonLarsonAllen Wealth Advisors, LLC in 2019, where I spent the four years leading up to the launch of Preece Financial Planning. My various licenses include Series 6, 7, 63, and 65, as well as a life insurance license in the state of Wisconsin.
The letters behind my name indicate that I'm a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional and an Enrolled Agent. To receive the CFP® certification, I took additional courses following my bachelor's degree in general financial planning, insurance, investments, estate planning, tax planning, and other aspects of holistic financial planning, culminating in a comprehensive exam. The CFP® Board also requires continuing education to ensure that CFP® Professionals like myself stay up-to-date on developments in the financial planning space.
The EA designation focuses entirely on US federal taxes. Every financial strategy has a tax consequence, and it's important to me that the people I work with don't pay any more tax than legally necessary.
